The Association of Retired Conservationists was organized by a group of retirees from the Wisconsin Conservation Department in the 1960's. By the mid-1970's, the WCD had been combined with the Department of Resource Development to form the Department of Natural Resources, and the retirees group had grown significantly, met monthly for lunch and began inviting speakers to address the group on issues of interest to the members. Today, the organization has more than two hundred members.

Dear Friends:

Last Wednesday the Assembly Natural Resources Committee held a hearing on AB 99 which, if enacted, would permanently remove the authority of the Department of Natural Resources to use Earn-a-Buck and October Herd Reduction Seasons as methods of reducing overpopulation of deer in individual deer management units. There was an excellent turnout of groups representing forestry, agriculture and sportsmen and women opposing the bill. Thank you to all of you that testified or sent comments to the committee. As I recall there were 23 individuals and/or groups against the bill and five in favor.

Monday we received word that an identical bill SB 75 has been introduced in the Senate and that there will be a public hearing on the bill this Thursday at 10 am. (Please see attached hearing notice). It will be important for the Senate Natural Resources and Environment Committee to hear from you. Now I realize that it may not be easy for you to come and testify on such short notice. If you cannot I would encourage you to send your testimony or comments by email to the Committee members.

Here are their email addresses. Click on email to send message:
