The Association of Retired Conservationists was organized by a group of retirees from the Wisconsin Conservation Department in the 1960's. By the mid-1970's, the WCD had been combined with the Department of Resource Development to form the Department of Natural Resources, and the retirees group had grown significantly, met monthly for lunch and began inviting speakers to address the group on issues of interest to the members. Today, the organization has more than two hundred members.

DNR Seeks Volunteers With Hunting Skills To Instruct Students Of All Ages

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for individuals to volunteer to help others enjoy safe and ethical hunts.

There are fun options to share your hunting expertise, enthusiasm and stories with novices of all ages who are interested in this activity.

You could become a mentor, lead a learn-to-hunt outing or hold a workshop to teach new hunters how to cook meat from harvested deer. Opportunities abound. Here are the fulfilling and satisfying ways you can share your skills with others.

Mentor A Novice

If you prefer a one-on-one opportunity, consider becoming a mentor. Learn about the Mentored Hunting Law on the DNRs website. This program allows novice hunters to hunt within arms reach of a qualified mentor without first completing a Hunter Education course.

DNR Offers Ready-To-Plant Oak Seedlings Four Species Are Available For Purchase

MADISON, Wis. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced it has 2-year-old oak seedlings available for purchase. The seedlings are from Wisconsins Wilson State Nursery and are ready for planting.

The seedlings are available because of a high-quality acorn crop and harvest in 2022. While many 1-year-old seedlings were purchased last year, others were grown for another year, resulting in a bumper crop of 2-year-old seedlings. Oak trees are ideal for reforesting a property, enhancing habitat or starting an oak grove.

DNR Announces Primary Results Of Southwest Wisconsin CWD, Deer And Predator Study

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today presented the primary results of the Southwest Wisconsin Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), Deer and Predator Study to the Natural Resources Board (NRB). A recording of the NRB meeting, including this presentation, is available on the DNR's YouTube channel.

The purpose of this study was to determine how CWD impacts deer populations. This involved estimating deer survival rates and how they were influenced by CWD.

Fieldwork for this project took place in northern Iowa, Dane and Grant counties. This area was selected for study as it is the region where CWD was first detected in Wisconsin in 2002 and has maintained a high CWD prevalence in the years since.

Wisconsin DNR: CWD Sinking Deer Herds in Disease-Endemic Areas

If youre seeing too few deer in southwestern Wisconsin for your hunting or viewing pleasure, its time to accept the obvious reason:
